The player that opens almost everything on your PC

About 70 formats in one program: the everyday MP3 and FLAC, the tracker modules of the 90s, and dozens of rare formats other players will not even open. The live oscilloscope and the 10-band equaliser come with it.

OSCILLOSCOPE — LIVE L · R

R$ 49.90

one-time payment · lifetime licence · no subscription
3-day free trial before you buy

Buying from outside Brazil: the price is in Brazilian reais and the checkout runs on Mercado Pago, which is a Brazilian payment processor — an international card may go through or may be declined, and I would rather say that here than have you find out at the last screen. The trial does not depend on any of it: the installer unlocks 3 full days with no account and no card. If your card is refused, write to chave@sgardstudio.com and I will sort the licence out by hand. If you prefer a package manager, Scoop works today: scoop bucket add vpx https://github.com/hellfirespriston-art/scoop-vpx then scoop install vpx.

If the file is odd, it probably opens

About 70 extensions, in four families. The first two are the reason VPX exists: almost no modern player still plays tracker modules.

CLASSIC TRACKERS

the ones that started it

.mod .s3m .xm

EXOTIC TRACKERS

about 40 extensions

.it .med .okt .669 .umx .stm .mtm .digi .ptm .amf .dbm .psm and more

The complete list of all 76 extensions is here, one line each, with where the odd ones came from.

This is the actual screen

Captured live on Windows, with no marketing make-up.

VPX playing an MP3: the 10-band equaliser open and two amber oscilloscopes, one per channel, with TURBO mode on.
EQUALISER + DOUBLE OSCILLOSCOPE The 10 bands open while an MP3 plays, one oscilloscope per channel and TURBO on, which releases the frame limit on the visualisation.
VPX playing a classic MOD module: each of the eight channels of the module gets its own live oscilloscope.
ONE MOD MODULE, EIGHT CHANNELS Playing a classic module: each of the 8 channels in the file gets its own live oscilloscope. It is the kind of thing that only makes sense in a player that understands trackers.

Serious equaliser

10 bands with ready presets (rock, bass, treble), surround, crossfade between tracks and a reverb with simulated rooms that go from a small bedroom to a cathedral. It works on every format in the list, modules included.

Accelerated oscilloscope

The waveform drawn in real time by the graphics card, with a TURBO button that releases the frame limit.

YouTube built in

Paste a video link and VPX pulls the audio straight into your playlist, without leaving the program.

What you should know before installing

None of this is required disclosure. It is here because installing a program written by a stranger deserves the whole truth, not only the pretty half.

The program's menus are in Portuguese

VPX was written in Brazil, for Brazil, and its interface has not been translated yet — you can see it in the screenshots above. The buttons are few and mostly obvious (LISTA = playlist, EQ, TURBO, ESQUERDO/DIREITO = left/right), but if you want everything in English, this is the honest place to say it is not there today.

Made by a solo developer, as a hobby

VPX is not a company product. It is a personal project, no team and no store badge: it is not on the Microsoft Store or in any Windows app store.

Under the hood it is a packaged web app

It is a web page (the same kind of code a website is made of) wrapped in a Windows installer using Electron. That is a common and legitimate technique, but it means the installer does not carry the paid digital signature of a registered company.

So Windows will warn "unknown publisher"

Without that signature, SmartScreen shows the blue "Windows protected your PC" screen. That is expected: it is not a virus signal, it is the absence of an expensive certificate a solo developer normally does not have. To continue, click "More info" and then "Run anyway". Installing through winget or scoop avoids the prompt entirely.

The risk gets reduced, not denied

Installing anything from outside an official store asks for a little more trust in the author. That is why the 3-day trial comes before any charge, the program runs locally (your audio files never go to any server) and support is by e-mail, from a real person.

Try it for 3 days before deciding

The installer already unlocks the full trial, with nothing to buy and nothing to register first. If you have already bought it, just paste the key that arrived in your e-mail into the program.

Wary of downloading an .exe from someone you do not know? Fair enough. Drag a tracker module onto the free web player and hear the same engine running inside your browser, with nothing installed, nothing registered and nothing uploaded.
